About Five Fold
Five Fold is a free daily word puzzle you can play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Every day there is one hidden five-letter word, the same for everyone in the world, and you have six guesses to find it. Type a word, press Enter, and each tile folds open like a piece of paper to show how close you were.
The clues are shapes, not just colours. A tile with a filled blue disc has the right letter in the right spot. A tile with an orange ring has a letter that is in the word but belongs somewhere else. A plain dark tile means the letter is not in the word at all. Because the shapes differ as well as the colours, the clues are easy to read for players with colour blindness, and there is no green, yellow or grey grid to squint at.
What makes Five Fold different is the weekly paper picture. Each week has one folded-paper scene, such as a lighthouse at dusk, a sleeping fox or a market of paper lanterns, creased into seven panels. Solve the day's puzzle and that day's panel unfolds. Solve all seven days and you unlock the whole picture for your gallery. Miss a day and the panel stays folded, so every morning is a reason to come back.
When you have finished the daily you can keep playing in Unlimited mode, with a fresh word every time and no waiting. Turn on Hard mode if you want a challenge: letters you have found in the right spot must stay there, and every letter you have found must be used again. If you are stuck, spend a hint coin to reveal one letter of the answer. You earn a coin for every daily solve and for every second Unlimited solve, and you can watch a short ad for an extra coin whenever you run out.
The answer list is hand-checked: about fifteen hundred common, family-friendly words with no offensive or obscure entries, while the guess list is much larger so you are never stopped from trying a real word. Answers never repeat within a year.
Tips: start with a word that uses common letters and different vowels, such as CRANE or SLATE. Use the second guess to test new letters rather than repeating the ones you know. Watch for double letters; a word like GEESE only rings as many times as the answer holds that letter. When you are down to a family of rhyming words such as -IGHT or -ATCH, use a guess to test the different first letters at once.
Share your result as a short text of plain shapes, with no spoilers and no colour emoji, so it looks the same in every chat app. Your streak, guess statistics, hint coins and weekly pictures are saved on this device, and to your account when you are signed in.
How to play
Type a five-letter word with the on-screen keys or your keyboard and press Enter (or the Enter key) to guess. Each tile folds open: a filled blue disc means the right letter in the right spot, an orange ring means the letter is in the word but elsewhere, and a plain dark tile means it is not in the word. You have six guesses. Solving the daily puzzle unfolds one panel of the week's picture. Tap the lightbulb to spend a hint coin and reveal one letter. Hard mode (in Help) makes you reuse every clue. Esc pauses.
