About Checkers Clash
Checkers Clash is free online checkers against the computer that you can play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There is nothing to download and no sign-up: your first game starts straight away against Wren, a friendly beginner, with a little hand showing you the first move. Your game is saved after every move, so you can close the page in the middle of a match and carry on later.
You can play two rule sets. Classic 8x8 is English draughts, also called American checkers in many places: men move and jump forward, kings move one square in any direction, and any jump you have available must be taken. Grand 10x10 is international draughts: men can jump backwards, kings are flying kings that glide any distance along a diagonal, and the majority rule means you must always take the route that captures the most pieces. The second set is bigger and deeper, and every win on it counts toward its own ladder.
Four rivals wait on each board. Wren is a beginner who plays quickly and makes real mistakes. Otto looks a few moves ahead and only slips now and then. Sable thinks much deeper and punishes loose pieces. Grand Mira searches as deep as her time allows and makes no deliberate mistakes at all. All four run on our own engine, which thinks on a background thread so the board never freezes. Beat a rival to unlock the next one, separately for each rule set.
Playing is simple. Tap one of your glowing pieces to see where it can go, then tap a dot. When a jump is waiting, a dotted route shows the whole chain before you commit, and multi-jumps play out hop by hop with a satisfying crunch. You can also drag pieces; on the big board a tap or drag snaps to the nearest legal square and a magnifier shows exactly where you will land. Undo takes back your last move and the reply, and Hint shows the engine's favourite move.
Your score turns each result into a number: a win is worth 300 points per rival level plus a speed bonus for quick wins, and a draw is worth 100 per level. Earn bronze for a first win, silver for a win with no undo or hint, and gold for a win that costs you at most two pieces. Medals unlock new wooden board sets. If a rival beats you three times in a row, the next game offers a head start with that rival one man down.
Every day there is a new combo puzzle, the same for everyone. It is a position where one move starts a forced sequence that wins material and ends in a multi-capture, found by our own engine. Solve it for up to 100 points, keep your streak alive day after day and earn a bonus for each day in a row.
Tips: keep your back row home as long as you can to stop enemy crowns, trade pieces when you are ahead, and before every move check which jump your rival will be forced to take, because forced jumps are how traps are made. Against Wren, look for free pieces. Against Mira, count the exchanges twice.
How to play
Tap one of your glowing pieces, then tap a dot to move; you can also drag. A jump is compulsory: when one is available you must take it, and a dotted route shows the chain. Reach the far row to be crowned. On the 10x10 board a tap snaps to the nearest legal square and you must take the route that captures the most. On a keyboard use the arrow keys and Enter or Space to pick a piece and a square, U to undo, H for a hint, Esc to cancel, P to pause and M to mute.

FAQ
- What is the difference between Classic 8x8 and Grand 10x10?
- Classic is English draughts: men jump forward only and kings move one square. Grand is international draughts: men jump backwards, kings fly across the board and you must take the capture that takes the most pieces.
- Do I have to jump?
- Yes. Captures are compulsory in both rule sets. If you have a jump you must make one, and a multi-jump must be finished.
- How strong are the rivals?
- Wren is a beginner who makes real mistakes, Otto is a casual player, Sable is a strong club player and Grand Mira makes no deliberate mistakes. Each unlocks when you beat the one before, separately on each board.
- Can I take back a move or get a hint?
- Yes. Undo takes back your last move and the rival's reply. You get one free hint per game and can watch an ad once per game for more. Using either removes the silver medal.
- When does the daily puzzle change?
- At midnight UTC. Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same day, and solving it each day grows your streak.
- Will my game be saved if I close the page?
- Yes. An unfinished game is saved after every move. Your records, medals and streak are saved on this device, and to your account when you are signed in.
