Reversi Rally Free Reversi against six computer rivals

Play free Reversi against six computer rivals, from a cheerful beginner to a perfect endgame solver, and crack a new puzzle every day.

About Reversi Rally

Reversi Rally is free online Reversi against the computer that you can play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There is nothing to download and no sign-up. Your first game starts straight away against Pip, a friendly beginner, and a little hand shows you where to tap. Your game is saved after every move, so you can close the page in the middle of a match and carry on later.

The rules are the classic ones on an 8x8 board. You and your rival take turns placing a disc. Every move must trap at least one line of the other side's discs between your new disc and one of your own, and every trapped disc flips to your colour. If you have no legal move your turn is passed, and when neither side can move the game ends. Whoever has more discs wins. Glowing dots show you every legal square, and the counter at the top shows the score as it changes.

Six rivals wait on the ladder. Pip is brand new and misses a lot. Juniper loves a big flip and still slips. Dune eyes the corners and thinks a few moves ahead. Vesper keeps her options open and rarely slips. Quill counts your moves and squeezes you out of them. Grand Aurelia reads deep and solves the last twelve squares perfectly, so once the board is nearly full she never makes a mistake. All six run on our own engine, which thinks on a background thread so the board never freezes. Beat a rival to unlock the next one.

Your score turns each result into a number: a win is worth 100 points per rung of the ladder plus 5 for every disc you win by, and a draw is worth 50 per rung. Earn bronze for a win, silver for a win with no undo or hint, and gold for a win by 20 discs or more with no help. Medals unlock new board colours. If a rival beats you three times in a row, the next game offers a head start with the a1 corner already yours.

Every day there is a new endgame puzzle, the same for everyone. Some days it says Win in a number of moves: only one move keeps the win, and the rest lose or draw. On other days it asks for the Best move: one move finishes with the most discs. Every puzzle is checked by an exact solver. Solve it for up to 100 points, keep your streak alive day after day and earn a bonus for each day in a row.

Tips: corners can never be flipped, so fight for them and avoid giving them away. The squares next to an empty corner are risky. Fewer moves for your rival is often better than more discs for you, so try to leave them with nothing good to play. Against Pip, simply look for big flips. Against Aurelia, plan the last dozen moves carefully, because she will find every trick in them.

How to play

Tap a glowing dot to place a disc. Your disc must trap one or more of your rival's discs in a straight line against another of your own, and the trapped discs flip to your colour. If you cannot move, your turn is passed. The side with more discs when nobody can move wins. On a keyboard use the arrow keys and Enter or Space to place a disc, U to undo, H for a hint, P to pause and M to mute.

FAQ

What are the rules of Reversi?
Players take turns placing a disc so that it traps a straight line of the other side's discs against one of their own. Trapped discs flip. If a player has no legal move the turn passes, and when neither can move the player with more discs wins.
What happens when I have no legal move?
Your turn is passed automatically and the game tells you. If your rival also has no move, the game is over and the discs are counted.
How strong are the rivals?
Pip and Juniper are beginners who make real mistakes. Dune looks a few moves ahead, Vesper and Quill play a solid middle game, and Grand Aurelia searches deeply and solves the final twelve squares perfectly. Each unlocks when you beat the one before.
Can I take back a move or get a hint?
Yes. Undo takes back your last move and the reply. You get one free hint per game and can watch an ad once per game for another. Using either removes the silver and gold medals.
What is the daily puzzle?
An endgame position with an exact answer. Win in N means only one move keeps the win. Best move means one move gets the most discs. It changes at midnight UTC and is the same for everyone.
Will my game be saved if I close the page?
Yes. An unfinished game is saved after every move. Your records, medals and streak are saved on this device, and to your account when you are signed in.
