Daily Sudoku Free daily sudoku: four new grids a day, Gentle to Fiendish
Four fresh sudoku grids every day, from Gentle to Fiendish, with hints that teach the next logical step instead of giving answers away.
About Daily Sudoku
Daily Sudoku is a free online sudoku you can play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Every day brings four new puzzles, Gentle, Steady, Tricky and Fiendish, and every player in the world gets the same four grids on the same day. Fill the 9 by 9 grid so that every row, every column and every 3 by 3 box holds the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. There is no download, no sign-up and nothing to install: the game opens straight into today's Gentle puzzle and remembers where you left off.
What makes Daily Sudoku different is the way it helps. When you are stuck, the Hint button does not just reveal a number. It points at one cell, marks the row, column or box that matters, and explains the reasoning in one short sentence, such as "Only place for 7 in this box" or a pointing pair that clears a digit from a row. Tap Hint a second time and the digit is filled in. Over time the hints teach you the techniques the harder puzzles need, from hidden singles to pairs, X-wings, swordfish, XY-wings and simple colouring.
Every puzzle has exactly one solution and is graded by the hardest technique a careful solver needs, not by how many clues it shows. Gentle puzzles need only singles. Steady adds locked candidates and pairs. Tricky adds triples and X-wings. Fiendish can need a swordfish, an XY-wing or colouring, but never guessing. Puzzles get a little harder through the week, with Monday the friendliest.
Your score depends on the difficulty and your time, minus a little for each hint and each mistake. Finish under par time for two stars, and under par with no hints and no mistakes for three. Solve at least one daily puzzle each day to grow your streak, and watch the month calendar fill with dots. After your first daily solve, practice mode opens unlimited extra puzzles at every level. Achievements reward your first solve, a Fiendish solve, a clean Tricky sheet, a full set of four in one day, a quick Gentle solve, and streaks of seven and thirty days.
Tips: start with the digits that already appear most often, because they have the fewest places left. Scan each box for a digit that can only go in one cell before you fill in notes. Use notes once a puzzle slows down, and let the game clear them for you when you place a digit. When two cells in a row can only hold the same two digits, cross those digits out of the rest of that row. If you would rather prove everything yourself, turn mistake check off for a pure solve.
Daily Sudoku is made for a calm coffee break: a Gentle grid takes about five minutes, a Fiendish one can take half an hour. It plays instantly, works with touch, mouse or keyboard, and saves your progress on this device or to your account when you are signed in.
How to play
Tap or click a cell, then a number on the pad to fill it. Turn on Brush to pick a number once and tap every cell it belongs in. Notes switches the pad to pencil marks, and a long press on a cell does the same. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys or WASD to move, 1 to 9 to place, Shift+digit or N for notes, Backspace or 0 to erase, U or Ctrl+Z to undo and H for a hint. Fill every row, column and box with 1 to 9 exactly once.

FAQ
- Is Daily Sudoku free, and does it work on my phone?
- Yes. It is free and runs in the browser on Android phones, iPhones, tablets and computers, with nothing to download.
- When do the daily puzzles change?
- At midnight UTC. Everyone gets the same four puzzles on the same day, so you can compare times with friends.
- How are hints different from just revealing a number?
- The first tap on Hint marks one cell and explains the logical step that finds its digit, with the row, column or box it uses highlighted. A second tap fills the digit in. Each puzzle has 2 or 3 free hints; after that you can watch an ad for one more.
- How does scoring work?
- Each difficulty has a base score (1,000 to 5,000) plus a time bonus for finishing before par. Each hint costs 150 points and each mistake 100. Two stars means under par time; three stars means under par with no hints and no mistakes.
- What keeps my streak going?
- Solve at least one of the daily puzzles on each day (UTC). Practice puzzles do not count toward the streak.
- Is my progress saved?
- Yes. Puzzles in progress, your streak, calendar and stats are saved on this device, and to your account when you are signed in.
