Keys Rush A free piano game: tap tiles to play real melodies

Tap falling golden tiles to play 16 classical and folk melodies on a piano. Each tap plays the next note, so only the rhythm is yours.

About Keys Rush

Keys Rush turns your fingertips into a pianist. Golden tiles glide down four lanes of a candle-lit concert hall, and every tile you tap plays the next note of a famous melody, so the tune is always right and only the rhythm is yours.

Tap a tile in its lane and the note rings out on a warm, piano-like voice, with a soft bass and chords keeping time underneath. Tap the wrong lane, or let a tile slip past the line, and the song stops. There is no slow tutorial: the first tiles are already falling when the hall appears, and the first few taps wait for you at the line while a ghost finger shows you where to press.

Sixteen songs to play

The song book holds sixteen public-domain melodies, from the easy ones everyone hums (Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Ode to Joy, Row, Row, Row Your Boat, Jingle Bells) through lullabies and old favourites (Brahms' Lullaby, Auld Lang Syne, Joy to the World, Greensleeves) to the showpieces (Minuet in G, Eine kleine Nachtmusik, the opening of Für Elise, Canon in D, the Turkish March and the Hall of the Mountain King, which speeds up as it goes). Every tune was written before 1900, and every note was transcribed by hand for this game, so there are no recordings and no borrowed arrangements.

Stars, crowns and unlocks

Every song is scored in stars by how far you get: one star at about a third of the way, two at seventy percent, and three for playing it all the way to the last note. Stars unlock the next songs in the book. Pick Easy, Normal or Hard before you play, and the tiles scroll slower or faster. When you have finished a song, Endless opens: the songs you know chain together, the tiles speed up with every bar, and you earn up to three crowns for how many tiles you can tap before a miss.

Long notes and double notes

Long notes become tall tiles. Press and hold one for as long as the note lasts to earn a bonus and a glowing sustain; letting go early only ends the bonus. On Normal and Hard, some strong beats bring a double: two tiles at once, the melody note and the same note an octave lower. Tap a tile right on the line for a Perfect and a bigger score, and keep your combo going for a multiplier of up to times four.

A fair chart, every time

The tiles are laid out by a chart maker with rules that keep the game fair: two tiles are never too close to tap in the same lane, fast runs of notes are folded into a single tile instead of becoming an impossible burst, and big jumps across the lanes are not allowed when the tiles come quickly. Slip up once and you can revive from the song's last good spot, once per run, by watching a short ad.

Tips

  • Look one or two tiles ahead, not at the one you are tapping.
  • Tap the tile as it reaches the golden line for Perfects; early taps still count.
  • On a keyboard, use D F J K for the four lanes and hold the key for long notes.
  • Easy is a great way to learn a song before you try it faster.

How to play

Tap the lane of the lowest golden tile (or press D F J K on a keyboard). Each tile plays the next note of the song. Never tap an empty lane and never let a tile pass the line. Hold long tiles for a bonus. Reach about a third of the song for one star, 70% for two, and play to the end for three. P or Esc pauses, M mutes.

FAQ

What happens when I miss a tile?
The run ends. You can revive once per run by watching a short ad, which rewinds the song to just before the tile you missed. Without the ad, tap Play again and you start the song over.
Are the songs real recordings?
No. Every melody is public domain (all written before 1900) and was transcribed by us as notes. A synthesised piano plays them as you tap, so there are no recordings and no copyrighted arrangements.
How do I unlock more songs?
Earn stars. The first four songs are open. Each star you earn on any song, on any difficulty, counts towards unlocking the next ones in the song book.
What are the crowns?
Crowns come from Endless mode, which opens after you finish your first song. Songs run back to back and the tiles keep getting faster. Tap 60 tiles for one crown, 140 for two and 260 for three.
Which keys do I press on a keyboard?
D, F, J and K are the four lanes from left to right. Hold a key to hold a long tile. Space or Enter starts the highlighted song, P or Esc pauses, and M mutes.
Is my progress saved?
Yes. Your stars, best scores and crowns save on this device, and with your account when you are signed in.
