Turf Trails A free territory game: loop trails to claim land

Leave your land, draw a trail and loop back home to claim everything inside it. Cut the bots' trails, keep yours safe, and own the most turf in two minutes.

About Turf Trails

Turf Trails is a free territory game in the style of the classic .io land grabbers, played right in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. You and seven bots slide around a square field of tiles. Each of you starts on a small patch of your own colour. Leave your patch and you draw a trail behind you; ride back into your land and the trail, plus everything it encloses, becomes yours with a satisfying pop. There is no download and no sign-up, and a round starts with a single swipe.

The catch is the trail. While you are outside your land, anyone who runs over your trail cuts it and knocks you out, and your land vanishes. The bots play by the same rules, so every loop is a small gamble: go further out for a bigger claim, or turn home early because a hunter is heading your way. Bump into your own trail and you are out too, and two blocks meeting head-on outside their land both go down. You can respawn once per round on a fresh patch, but a second knock-out ends your round.

The seven bots have names and personalities. Greedy bots like Bramble and Saffron draw huge loops and leave long trails for you to cut. Cautious bots like Pip and Wren nibble at the edges and run home at the first sign of danger. Hunters like Rook and Kestrel chase trails, including yours. After two minutes the block with the most land wins, and your placement moves you along a ladder of ten leagues, from Sprout to Crown, where the bots get bolder, smarter and harder to catch.

Every round pays coins for your land, your cuts and a top-three finish. Spend them on twelve skins, each a bright colour with its own land pattern: stripes, dots, checks, grids and zigzags. There are seven achievements to earn and an online leaderboard for your best round score.

Tips: Make small, square loops at first; a short trail is a safe trail. Loop around a corner of a rival's land to steal it. Watch for greedy bots far from home and cut across their trail for an easy knock-out. Turn home the moment a hunter gets close. The walls are soft, so you never crash into the edge, and big loops along a wall are safer because nobody can come from that side.

Rounds last two minutes, so Turf Trails fits a short break and is easy to replay. Your coins, skins, league and best score are saved automatically.

How to play

Touch or mouse: swipe in the direction you want to turn; one drag can chain several turns. Turn on the on-screen d-pad with the button at the bottom left if you prefer buttons. Keyboard: arrow keys or WASD to turn, Space or Enter to start, P or Esc to pause, M to mute. Leave your land to draw a trail, then come back into your land to claim everything the loop encloses. Don't let anyone touch your trail, and don't touch it yourself. Own the most land when the 2-minute timer runs out.

FAQ

Do I play against other people?
No. All seven rivals are bots with names and personalities, so the game starts instantly, works on any connection, and the difficulty grows with your league.
What knocks me out?
Someone running over your trail while you are outside your land, touching your own trail, meeting another block head-on outside your land, or losing all your land. The field edge never knocks you out; you simply turn.
How does scoring work?
You get 10 points for every percent of the field you own at the end, 30 points for each trail you cut, and a placement bonus of 150, 80 or 40 for finishing first, second or third.
How do leagues work?
There are ten leagues. Finish in the top three to move up one. Finish seventh or eighth twice in a row and you drop one, but never more than three below your best league.
How do I get new skins?
Every round pays coins for your land, your cuts and a top-three finish. Spend them on the results screen to buy skins; each one changes your colour and the pattern painted on your land.
Does my progress save?
Yes. Coins, skins, league, achievements and your best score are saved on this device automatically, and to your Playora account when you are signed in.
Is Turf Trails free?
Yes, it is free to play in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download.
