Pocket Pup A free virtual pet game: adopt a puppy and look after it

Adopt a puppy, name it, then feed, wash, play and tuck it in. Four tiny mini-games earn treats for new toys and outfits.

About Pocket Pup

Pocket Pup is a free virtual pet game you can play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. You adopt a puppy, choose its coat from four looks, give it a name, and then look after it in short, cosy visits. There is nothing to download and nothing to pay for.

Your pup has four needs: tummy, fun, clean and sleep. They fall slowly in real time, so a pup left alone for a while gets a little sad, with droopy ears and a hopeful look. But it never gets ill, never runs away and never goes hungry for good. Time away only counts for up to ten hours, and the needs can never fall to zero. Visit twice a day, feed it, play with it, give it a bath and tuck it in, and it will be happy every time you come back.

Looking after the pup is hands-on. Stroke it and it closes its eyes and sends hearts. Tap it and it perks its ears, barks and hops. Its eyes follow your finger, it blinks, it breathes, and its tail wags faster the happier it is. Choose Feed to pick a snack from the tray, Wash to start a bubble bath, Play for a game, or Sleep to turn the lights down while it dozes.

The four mini-games earn treats and XP. In Fetch you stop a sliding marker near the gold, and the closer you get, the farther the ball flies while the pup dashes after it. In Bubble Bath you rub the sponge over the muddy spots, then rinse the foam away with the shower. In Hide and Seek the pup ducks behind garden objects and you tap to find it; wrong guesses give you hints, first an ear and then a wagging tail. In Tug you tap to pull the rope and tap on the beat for a bigger pull. There is no losing: every game always pays treats.

Treats buy new foods, toys and outfits. As your pup levels up it opens a garden and a bedroom, new games and a closet full of hats, glasses, scarves and a cape. A daily care streak gives a gift each day and forgives a missed day, and a seven day streak earns a golden medal.

Tips: stroke the pup for a few seconds each visit, it is free fun. The button for a need that runs low glows, so you always know what to do next. Tap on the beat in Tug, and in Hide and Seek follow the hints. Pocket Pup has no ads while you play, a single name field that is checked for kid friendly words, no chat and no links, so it is a good game for families.

How to play

Tap or stroke your pup to say hello. Keep its four gauges (tummy, fun, clean, sleep) full with the Feed, Wash, Play and Sleep buttons. Fetch: tap to stop the marker in the gold. Bubble Bath: drag the sponge over the mud, then the shower over the foam. Hide and Seek: tap where the pup hides and follow the hints. Tug: tap fast, best when the ring closes. Treats buy foods, toys and outfits in the closet. Keys: 1 to 4 for the care buttons, arrows to change room, Space to act, P or Esc pauses, M mutes.

FAQ

Can my pup get sick or run away?
No. If you are away, your pup just gets a little sad and hungry, and a short visit cheers it up again. Time away counts for at most 10 hours and the needs never fall to zero.
Is Pocket Pup free, and does it work on my phone?
Yes. It is free and runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers. Your pup is saved on your device, and to your account when you are signed in.
What can I name my pup?
Up to 12 letters, numbers, spaces, apostrophes or hyphens. The name goes through a family friendly filter, so some words are refused. It is the only text you can type in the game.
How do I earn treats?
Play the mini-games: Fetch, Bubble Bath, Hide and Seek and Tug. Each one always pays treats, more for doing well. You also get a daily gift when you visit.
Are there ads?
Never while you play. A short ad can appear when you leave a mini-game results screen, at most every few minutes, and never before your first game.
How often should I visit?
Whenever you like. Visiting twice a day keeps your pup happy, and once a day is fine too. A daily visit builds your streak.
