Rooftop Dash A free endless runner game across city rooftops

Sprint across dusk city rooftops, jump the gaps and slide under signs. Land right at a roof's edge for a speed boost, if you dare.

About Rooftop Dash

Rooftop Dash is a free endless runner you can play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Your runner sprints across the rooftops of a city at dusk on their own; your job is to jump the gaps between buildings, hop over crates and air vents, and slide under hanging signs, laundry lines and pipes. There is nothing to download and no sign-up, and a run takes anything from thirty seconds to a few minutes, so it fits a short break as well as a long session.

The twist is the edge landing. Land in the first few steps of a new roof and you score a Perfect landing: a gold flash, a burst of speed, bonus points and one more level on the Flow meter. Flow goes up to five and multiplies the points for coins and Perfects, but every level also makes you faster. Land anywhere else and you lose a level of Flow. So every gap is a small decision: jump early and safe, or hold your jump and aim for the very edge of the next roof. Greed pays, until it doesn't.

The city gets harder the further you run. Your base speed rises for the first minute or so, gaps get wider, roofs step up and down more, and obstacles become more common, until the run reaches full pressure at around 1800 metres. The course is built to be fair: every gap can be cleared with a full jump from the edge, every crate can be cleared with a tap and every sign can be slid under. Every 500 metres there is a breather of three wide, open roofs with a trail of coins, so you can catch your breath.

Coins buy runner styles: scarves, hoods, sneakers and glowing trails. They change only the look, so leaderboard runs stay fair. Three missions are always running, such as reaching a distance, sliding a number of times or chaining Perfect landings, and each one pays 200 coins and is replaced by a harder one. The daily route is a fixed course that is the same for everyone each day, with its own best score on the menu. There are seven achievements and two leaderboards, one for score and one for distance.

Tips: hold the jump for a longer, higher jump and tap for a short hop over a crate. Watch the coins over a gap, because they trace a full jump that lands near the edge. Near misses are worth points, so sliding late under a sign or just clearing a crate pays off. Clipping the corner of a crate or a roof makes you stumble and lose your Flow, but it does not end the run. When you fall, you can watch a short ad once per run to keep running from the next roof.

How to play

Your runner runs on their own. Tap anywhere, click, or press Space, Up or W to jump; hold for a higher, longer jump. Swipe down, right-click, or press Down or S to slide under signs, laundry and pipes; in the air the same move drops you fast. Land in the first steps of a roof for a Perfect landing, a speed boost and more Flow. Falling into a gap or running into a sign or crate ends the run. Pause with P or Esc, mute with M.

FAQ

What is a Perfect landing?
Landing on a new roof within the first 24 units (about a runner's length) of its edge. It gives bonus points, a short burst of speed and one level of Flow, up to five. Any other landing on a new roof costs a level of Flow.
How do I play on a phone?
Tap anywhere to jump and hold your finger down for a higher jump. Swipe down anywhere to slide, or to drop quickly while in the air. One thumb is enough.
Can I play with a keyboard or mouse?
Yes. Space, Up or W jump (hold for higher) and Down or S slide. With a mouse, click to jump and right-click or drag down to slide. P or Esc pauses and M mutes.
Does my progress save?
Yes. Your best score, best distance, coins, styles and missions are saved on this device, and to your account when you're signed in.
Can I continue after I fall?
Once per run you can choose to watch a short ad to keep running. You start again on the next roof with two seconds of ghosting, and your Flow starts again from zero.
Do runner styles make me faster?
No. Styles bought with coins only change how your runner looks, so scores on the leaderboards are fair.
