Rope Rider A free rope swing game with 48 one-touch levels

Hold to throw your rope, let go to fly. Swing through 48 levels, grab every coin and time the glowing slingshot release.

About Rope Rider

Rope Rider is a free rope swing game you can play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. You play a little rider with a grappling rope, and you have one control: hold your finger anywhere on the screen to throw the rope to the nearest hook, and let go to fly. Chain swing after swing across rooftops, jungle vines, frozen caves and factory cranes until you reach the finish gate. There is nothing to download and no sign-up, and a level takes between ten seconds and a minute, so it fits a short break as well as a long evening.

The game is built around one idea: the moment you let go. A rope swing is a pendulum, and the same swing sends you to completely different places depending on when you release. Let go too early and you drop into the pit; let go at the right moment and you arc right onto the next hook. A white ring always shows which hook your rope will take before you hold, so you can plan the next flight instead of guessing.

Then there is the slingshot release. As you swing through the lowest point of the arc, the rider and the rope start to glow. Let go while the glow is on and you are flung thirty percent faster, with a gold burst and a SLING! pop-up. It is the fastest way across a level, it reaches coins that sit far from the normal route, and it is how you beat the par time for the third star. Miss the glow and you still fly, only slower.

There are 48 levels in four worlds. City Roofs teaches the basics with pits between rooftops. Vine Jungle adds swaying hooks and bounce pads that fling you back into the air. Frost Caves brings spinning ice crystals and gusts of wind that push you off line. Gear Factory mixes everything together with saws, fans and swinging cranes. Every level has three coins to collect, a checkpoint flag on each island so a fall only costs a few seconds, and up to three stars: one for clearing it, one for all three coins and one for finishing at or under par.

Every level was built by playing it: the generator only places a hook where a test rider can actually reach it, and a second test rider with sloppy timing has to clear it most of the time, so the game is hard but fair. Your best run on each level is saved as a ghost, a faint copy of you that replays your fastest time, so you can race yourself and shave off tenths of a second.

Tips: hold a little before you land so the rope is ready, let go when the next hook ring appears ahead and above you, and look for the glow near the bottom of every swing. Rope Rider works with touch, mouse and keyboard and plays best in portrait on a phone. Your stars, coins, times and ghosts are saved on this device, and to your account when you are signed in.

How to play

Touch or mouse: press and hold anywhere on the game to throw the rope to the hook shown by the white ring, and let go to fly. Hold again as you fall to catch the next hook. Keyboard: hold Space, Up, W or Enter. R restarts the level, P or Esc pauses and M mutes.

Slingshot: when the rider and the rope glow near the bottom of a swing, let go inside the glow for a 30% speed boost.

Goal: reach the checkered gate on the last island. Collect the three coins for the second star and finish at or under the par time for the third. Falling into a pit or touching a spike sends you back to the last checkpoint flag.

FAQ

How do I get three stars on a level?
Clear the level for the first star, collect all three coins in one run for the second, and finish at or under the par time shown on the results screen for the third. Your best stars are kept, so you can go back for the coins and the time on separate runs.
What does the glow do?
Near the bottom of each swing the rider and the rope glow. If you let go while the glow is on, you get a slingshot release: you fly 30% faster than a normal release. It is the quickest way to beat par.
How does the rope pick a hook?
The rope goes to the closest hook that is above you and in range, with a bonus for hooks ahead of the way you are moving. A white ring shows the hook before you hold, so you always know what you will get.
What is the ghost?
When you clear a level, your fastest run is saved. The next time you play it, a faint copy of you replays that run so you can race your own best time.
Is every level possible?
Yes. Every hook and landing is placed by a generator that plays the level with the same physics you use, so a route is proven to exist. A second test player with sloppy timing also has to clear each level at least seven times out of ten.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Rope Rider is made for phones first: one thumb is all you need, anywhere on the screen. It also works with a mouse or keyboard on a computer.
Is my progress saved?
Yes. Your stars, coins, best times and ghosts are saved on this device automatically, and to your account when you are signed in.
