Sprout Leap A free platformer game through 32 garden levels

Run, hop and wall-hop a little seedling through 32 garden levels. Grab all three water drops, beat par and race your own ghost.

About Sprout Leap

Sprout Leap is a free platformer you can play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. You play Sprig, a round little seedling with a two-leaf sprout, who runs, hops and leaps through 32 short garden levels to collect water drops. There is nothing to download and no sign-up, and every level takes between thirty seconds and a minute and a half, so it fits a coffee break as well as a long evening.

Every level hides three water drops, and slugs and thorns guard every one of them. One drop sits on top of a slug's patrol, another hangs over a thorn bush, a third waits at the top of a climb. You can always take the safe line to the watering can at the end, but the drops need a braver jump. Grab all three and you earn a star; clear the level and you earn another; beat the par time and you earn the third. That makes 96 stars to collect in total.

Sprout Leap is built around a tight, fair controller. Tap jump for a short hop or hold it for a full leap. If you press jump a moment after running off a ledge, or a moment before you land, it still counts, so the game forgives a thumb that is a little early or late. Every level has been checked by a planner that drives the real controller through it, so every drop and every exit can be reached, and a test player with clumsy timing clears each level most of the time.

The game has four worlds, and each one teaches a new move. The Meadow is about running, jumping, springs and one-way ledges. The Quarry adds the wall hop: jump into a wall, slide down it and jump again to climb chimneys, and it adds moving platforms too. The Frost Orchard gives Sprig a double jump for wide icy pools, and the Sky Garden adds the seed glide, where you hold jump while falling to float across huge gaps.

Your best run on each level is saved as a ghost. Next time you play, a faint Sprig shows where you were on your fastest run, and each checkpoint flower tells you whether you are ahead or behind. Chase the ghost, shave off seconds, and push your garden score up the leaderboard.

Sprout Leap works with touch, mouse and keyboard and plays well in portrait on a phone or in landscape on a computer. Your progress, stars and ghosts are saved on your device, and to your account when you are signed in.

Tips

  • Hold jump for long gaps and tap it for small steps; most misses come from a full leap where a hop was needed.
  • Land on a slug's back to bounce higher; only its sides hurt.
  • On a moving platform, wait for it to come to you instead of jumping at it.
  • For a wall climb, keep pushing toward the wall between hops.
  • Go for the drops first and the par time later: stars from different runs add up.

How to play

Touch: hold the left half of the screen to run. Its left part runs left and its right part runs right, and you can slide your thumb between them. Tap the right half of the screen to hop, or hold it to jump higher. A quick swipe up on the left half also jumps, so you can play with one thumb.

Keyboard: arrow keys or A and D to run, and Space, Up or W to jump (hold for a higher jump). P or Esc pauses and M mutes.

Goal: collect the three water drops in each level and reach the watering can. Thorns, slugs' sides, water and pits cost a leaf; lose all three and you wilt. You can bounce on a slug's back safely. Checkpoint flowers bloom as you pass them and bring you back if you fall.

FAQ

How do I get three stars on a level?
Clear the level for the first star, collect all three water drops in one run for the second, and finish at or under the par time shown on the results screen for the third. Your best stars are kept, so you can go back for the drops and the time on separate runs.
What is the ghost?
When you clear a level, your fastest run is saved. The next time you play that level, a faint Sprig replays that run so you can race it, and each checkpoint flower shows whether you are ahead or behind.
How do the new moves work?
The Quarry adds the wall hop: jump into a wall, keep pushing toward it to slide, then press jump to hop off it. The Frost Orchard adds a double jump: press jump again in the air. The Sky Garden adds the seed glide: hold jump while you are falling to float down slowly.
Is every level really possible?
Yes. Every level is checked by a planner that plays it with the same controls you use and proves that all three drops and the exit can be reached. A test player with sloppy timing also has to clear each level at least seven times out of ten.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Sprout Leap is made for phones first and plays in portrait, with big touch zones: the left half of the screen runs and the right half jumps. It also works with a mouse or keyboard on a computer.
Is my progress saved?
Yes. Your stars, best times and ghosts are saved on this device automatically, and to your account when you are signed in.
What happens when I lose all my leaves?
Sprig wilts. You can retry the level from the start, or once per attempt choose to watch an ad to keep growing with three fresh leaves at the last checkpoint.
