About Strike Alley

Bowl a perfect game in a neon retro alley

Strike Alley is a free 3D bowling game you can play in your browser on a phone or a computer. The lane stretches away from you under warm hanging lamps and teal and pink neon. Put your thumb down where you want to release the ball, slide sideways to line it up, then swipe up the lane to bowl. The direction of the swipe is your aim, the speed of the swipe is the speed of the ball, and the curve of the swipe is your hook: bow it to the right and the ball breaks left at the end of the lane.

The lane is oiled like a real one. For the first two thirds the ball skids almost straight through the oil, then it grips the dry boards near the pins and hooks. That is the whole trick of bowling: aim where the hook will finish, not where the ball starts. Roll into the pocket with a little angle and the pins tumble into each other for a strike. Hit the head pin full on and you may leave a nasty split like the 7-10.

Why it's fun

  • Real ten-pin scoring with strikes, spares, the tenth-frame bonus balls and splits marked on the scoresheet, up to a perfect 300.
  • Pin action from a real physics simulation: pins knock down other pins, bounce off the side walls and sometimes wobble and stay standing.
  • Matches against one, two or three computer bowlers. Beat them all to climb five league tiers, face tougher rivals and unlock new ball colours.
  • Spare challenges: four sets of classic leaves to pick up with one ball each, from single pins to buckets and baby splits, with up to three stars per set.
  • The daily lane gives everyone the same oil pattern each day, with its own leaderboard.
  • Big STRIKE and SPARE moments with a cheering crowd, confetti and a fanfare that climbs with every strike in a row.
  • Your progress saves automatically on this device and to your account when you are signed in.

A ten-frame game takes about four minutes. The game works with touch, mouse or keyboard, and you can pause or mute at any time.

Tips

  1. Find one line and repeat it. Start in the same spot, swipe the same way, and only change one thing at a time.
  2. If the ball keeps crossing over to the wrong side of the head pin, start further out or use less curve. If it never comes back, add curve or throw a little slower.
  3. Shoot spares straight. A swipe with no bow from the far side of the lane is the most reliable way to pick up a corner pin.
  4. Strikes in a row are worth far more than they look: a strike scores ten plus your next two balls.
  5. On the daily lane, a longer oil pattern means the ball hooks later, so aim closer to the pocket.

How to play

Press where you want to release the ball, slide sideways to move it, then swipe up the lane to bowl. The swipe's direction is your aim, its speed is the ball speed, and bowing the swipe to one side hooks the ball the other way near the pins. On a keyboard, A and D move the ball, the left and right arrows aim, the up and down arrows set the hook, and holding Space fills the power meter: let go to bowl. P or Esc pauses, M mutes.

FAQ

How do I throw a hook?
Bow your swipe to the side instead of swiping in a straight line. A swipe that bows out to the right makes the ball curve left as it reaches the dry part of the lane near the pins, and the other way round. The more it bows, the bigger the hook. A faster throw hooks a little less.
Why does the ball go straight at first?
The front of the lane is oiled, like a real bowling lane. The ball skids through the oil and only grips and hooks on the dry boards in the last third of the lane. The daily lane changes how long the oil is.
How does bowling scoring work?
Each of the ten frames gives you two balls to knock down ten pins. A strike (all ten with the first ball) scores 10 plus your next two balls. A spare (all ten with two balls) scores 10 plus your next ball. A strike or spare in the tenth frame earns bonus balls. The best possible game is 300.
What is a split?
A split is a leave after your first ball where the head pin is down and the pins left standing have a gap between them, like the 7-10. Splits are circled on the scoresheet. Converting one earns the Split pick achievement.
How do I move up the league?
Win a ten-frame match by outscoring every rival. Each win moves you up a tier, up to tier 5, with stronger rivals and a new ball colour to unlock.
Does my progress save?
Yes. Your league tier, best game, challenge stars and daily best save automatically on this device, and to your account when you are signed in.
